You know that saying where people tell you "Life is like a rollercoaster, there's the ups and there's the downs," and yeah true, the upside downs and multi loops too depending on which type of rollercoaster you're talking about. So i was thinking about this one day and then i thought, "That's not really true, yeal visually it is," you look at the structure of the ride you're correct. But i thought, as a person taking the ride, i would be having a whole lot of FUN the whole time! Seriously, i love rollercoasters, i was laughing my head off from joy sitting in the universal studios ride that time. The lesson here? It's all about perspective, you can look at one thing in so many ways, you could come up with your own intepretation of it too. Isn't that lovely?

Singapore trip 2011

Instead of writing about what happened i'll just post a video to summerize it all. The place is of course singapore, the date 4th to 6th July 2011. We went all around singapore with out luggage with us! woots for trying to be heroes!
The places featured include, Bugis street, bugis junction, Marina bay sands, merlion, clark quay, universal studios singapore.

It was a good time of bonding with my college mates and we just had a fun time being independant travellers, oh i'm so proud of ourselves. hahahaha.

I've been so free that i've looked through pages and pages of art related stuff, so i hapened to stumble upon this website which gives you inspiration or ideas on how to wrap gifts! It's a good thing too because most of the time, the gift buying is pretty easy, but the wrapping, well i'm just left scratching my head. Yes i was thinking to myself today, when was the last time it rained and oh right, that was yesterday. See the weather is going in extreme's, on minute it's raining everywhere and the next it's as hot as the sahara. Somehow though yesterday there was no rain at a place called jalan imbi, cool eh. Yeah well, my college friend eng hoe invited A0907 to go play captainball at his church at jalan imbi, but then it turns out i was the only one who showed up,swt.

Went to his aunts house and finally got to go inside because normally i just fetch him there and leave. So then as we rode in the car, i got to know his brothers which well, we only get to hear about in college. Reached the church and lo and behold we were early, really early. So just sat down and talked to his bro about manga. And for your information, yeah manga is a good topic to talk to me about, we could go on all day especially if we read the same ones and are on the same page (literally). Met the church members and i tried making friends with the little girl andrea, it was so cute cause at first she was really scared of the ball, but after awhile she got the hang of it. Everyone was nice and just encouraged her not ot be scared, and they were all guys, so that's a nice change, haha.

The game started when more people came and i think in the end there were more girls than guys, all in all the mix was good and there was quite and equal spread of skills between the teams. I have to say this is the most fun i've had playing captainball because half the time we were laughing. See we have a mix of ages from 13 to 20 plus, so when the younger ones get the ball, give them chance la. The main point was to enjoy the game. And the laughing part, well all sorts of things happened and sometimes it was just plain playfulness. The field was small too so i didn't need to run much! yay for me because actually i didn't plan on playing for the whole 2 hours, as i didn't want to hurt myself (mom mentioned that i am clumsy and prone to hurting myself, evident from the sprain i had on both legs) because June is honestly packed with lots of things (yay finally!). But in the end i played all the rounds and it was a good, non streneous exercise. It's nice lah, just to have casual captainball games where everyone is not trying to be so competitive all the time. Competitions are different stories altogether.

After the game we went across the street from the church to this open area where hawkers set up their stalls. While eating i spotted su's dad and bro's, said hi to them and asked them where the famous song su yi was, oh turns out she was at home doing some work. ayohhh. And that was my saturday alright. Before that, i forgot to mention that i bought my sports shoes a few hours before the game. I really did need a pair as my old ones are fit to be put in the museum and put under special care as they're falling apart. And it's purple!! and i bought a purple bag to match too! Because well my backpack was also falling apart, so i needed a new one. Two lovely purple things in one day.

A very unoriginal title but absolutely necessary, because that is exactly what i did, ahahahahahaha. I got sick of the spammers/virus and the people who actually read my blog also commented about it. Honestly, i was on the verge of switching to wordpress because i just thought it would be cool, but that doesn't really solve the problem and it would be abandoning this little plot of space i have in the web realm. Forgive me if i speak weirdly, a daily dose of 'The Big Bang Theory' will do that to you. I think Sheldon cooper is rubbing off on me, ohhh dear.

I really hope this solves the problem of the viruses if not i really have to consider drastic measures. Good computer people out there, do you have a solution for me? no...? anybody? haha i sound like Julie from 'Julie and Julia' the cooking movie, she said something like this too. But then again, her blog turned into a hit and a book and a movie, and here is am...in my little plot of web space.

Anyway, i realised i am about 200 plus views away from 10000 visitors, that is exciting isn't it? Well for me it is...moving on. Ps. this post is random and i'll just talk about anything that pops into my head that has happened recently.

My friends and i recently found this place called 'Boardgame Depot' in bangsar, really near bangsar village and so far i've only been there twice but i've had a very fun time already. You won't find the conventional games there because well i think the owner doesn't want to have mainstream boardgames there, meaning no chess, checkers, RISK (sad), monopoly, game of life, cluedo, etc. You get the picture. Instead there are all these cool games from overseas, europe if i'm not mistaken and don't worry, they're in english. The best part is the owner will just explain to you how to play the games, no need to read the instructions. You just have to go there, it's on the first floor by the way, kinda easy to miss so open your eyes, and then tell them like how many people you came with, say 2 or 5 then they'll show you the appropriate game for the number of people you have in your group. The first time i went there, we had 5 people all together and we were introduced to the game niagara.

The pretty little diamonds

It's a game where you're supposed to collect the pretty gems and avoid falling off the waterfall. It's a really good strategy game because you've got to think of how to use your cards at the appropriate time and also sabotage the other players like stealing their gems or trying to push them off the waterfall, all this while trying to collect as many gems as required. Funny thing is, i was actually playing it the wrong way and it wasn't till the end that we all realised that, anyway, the girl who couldn't really count actually won the game, ahahaha. Hope she doesn't read this.

The other game we played was red appled green apple, something that sounds like that, it's more of a debating/arguing game. Future lawyers who want to practise their debating skills should play this because you're supposed to select a card from your deck that best suits the card that is presented to everyone. Say the card that is presented says 'marriage' then you look at the cards you have and try to convince the judge why the card you picked is associated with 'marriage'.

The last game we played was 'Saboteur', just as the name suggests, that's what some people, the chosen, no, more like the those who get the 'saboteur' cards have to do. See we have the 'miners' who are supposed to mine and find the gold, the sabotuers are supposed to stop them. And you may think it's easy, but when you got friends who are good at bluffing then it gets real hard. This is one game that i would like to play again, if i get a chance.

You have to solve this puzzle first

The second time i visited this place it was just me and vic, so we started with Ubongo (Pics above), which is a little like tetris, you have to solve the puzzle then only do you get to collect the jewels, so the person with the most jewels of the same colour wins. And if you finish first you get to move 3 steps, finish after that and you only get to go 1 step.Then we met some random people who randomly came to find random people like us who want to paly board games, this guy, he brought his own boardgame called 'pompeii'. I was happy just because of its name. I loved the place, as i have blogged about it before. The rules were quite complicated at first but after playing a little i loved it. The rules are really complicated and it would be best if you heard it when you actually play the game so here are the highlights, if you know the history of pompeii, the city was covered whole by lava on 79 A.D. and there were the people in the city who didn't escape. So the game is centred around this fact. First you populate the place, then there's the first warning and if you get an omen card you get to throw a person into the volcano. When the second volcano card comes out you stop populating the place and you get out of the city. Yes so it's all about where you put your people, and how to get them out. Now you may be wondering, why populate so much, wouldn't it be easier to just have a few people and then get them all out. Well it's all pro's and con's, you see you win by having the most people out, so if you have just a handful and you do manage to get some out (It's really hard to get all out) then you might loose to someone who had many people and half of which got out (Which is more than you have in a whole). It all depends on your strategy really, yeah i love the strategy stuff in board games. Oh and did i mention, the lava has a mind of it's own, meaning you can sorta 'control' the lava to reach your opponents or block the exits, whichever is more convinient. The last game was 'The red dragon inn', four people play this game and it's all based on cards alone. The point is to get everyone else 'drunk' and be the last one sober. Seriously, i kid you not. Ok, drinking till you're drunk and black out is not cool but this game is lah. I got to be the warrior girl who has like magic too. You can gamble too and that...i was not good at. Kept on loosing money. Oh the other way to kick the others out of the game is to make them broke. That's how i lost, lost to the gambler, duh. The fun thing about this game is that every character has it's strength and weaknesses. Like the gambler, he's good at gambling but he gets drunk fast. I guess you'll have to really know the game to really know how to play it. Since it was our first time, we kept asking if we could use this card or how to use this card. Happens lah i guess when each card is so different.So that's all the games i've played so far, and i am looking for a board game kaki, to you know, play boardgames with me. It's RM4 an hour and it's really worth it because just one of these games costs a bomb, plus you get to meet other people who love board games too. Italy- Day 4, Sienna

Dawn came and the view from the hotel in Sorrento was wonderful as we were situated on top of the hill and you know you’re gonna get a nice view from heights like that. It was also good that the sky was clear, but just such a shame that we didn’t get to stay in Sorrento for long. Breakfast was simple and we met a group that came from Singapore that was kinda cool as we got to see some people from our side of the world for a while.

We had to leave early because we were going to the medieval town of sienna. And that was around 400 plus kilometres to travel in one day! Now skipping the very long journey, we reach our destination.

It is a nice little place where you’ve got lots of windy streets, and it’s on elevated ground so we have lanes that you can just run downhill or uphill, whichever way you’re coming from. This was also the first place we encountered toilets where you had to pay, yeah shocking because all the gas stop toilets were free and we were getting pretty used to that, haha.

The landmark we first went to was the square, which is kind of ironic because it is not a square, more like a circle really or a semicircle. But the point is, just imagine an amphitheatre semi circle, and you have it higher ground to lower ground. They have their major celebrations there which I imagine would be beautiful. The shops around the area were really nice as the restaurants have tables outside where the customers can just have their food and relax, chat and enjoy the ambience of the old town.

Right after that and some gelato, which I now regret not taking, we headed to the church. The unique thing about this church is that the walls are made of black and white marble. Normally churches just use white marble, the old one, but this was like a layered cake. The carvings on the front were absolutely detailed as usual. I tell you, I tried doing these carvings justice through my photos and videos but it is just not good enough, you need to see it for yourself, and I wish I could just touch it and look up close.

At the end of the day, we headed to our hotel, which is really an estate on the hills just 30 minutes away from Florence overlooking the vineyard and we stayed in apartments. This was a good change as we had been staying in typical hotel rooms for the past few days and this place just felt like a home. There was a kitchen, a living room, 2 bedrooms and it was really well furnished. We were also given the honour of dining with the owner of this estate and wow his house is so huge. The really Italian kind of home where you would see in period dramas. The whole dining experience was really good too as I’ve never done the whole formal dinner thing. I was a bit tired from all the travelling, but it was a really nice time. And that concludes day 4, nothing much compared to the other days because we spent so much time on the road. More to come on the day 5!

Italy- Day 3- Pompeii, Amalfi Coast and Sorrento

Although Rome was not built in a day, we had to tour it in one. So today we sadly left Rome, I admit I was a little surprised we spent so little time here after all I wanted to walk through the ancient forums, and I also did not check the itenary so that gave me a little surprise. As I said, I did not read the itenary and did not know we were going to visit Pompeii or how long it would take, when we reached Pompeii I was shocked as it looked pretty much intact. That was just the outside of the excavated area of course but being blur I didn’t know. As we walked to the entrance I could see more of it and got a better picture. Being tourists, we asked the guy if there were any discounts and to our surprise we got quite a good deal as certain age groups need not pay the full price. Can’t remember it right now but I know I just paid half price. The thing that surprised me was the tickets because there were prices for a 3 day pass and I was thinking, “Wow, why a three day pass, this is not Disneyland.”

I learnt later that you do need a three day pass if you a. went to every point of interest in the area. B. Wanted to read and really absorb all that was going on. C. A huge fan of the place (history lovers/ archaeologist enthusiasts, etc.) d. Did not figure out the map in the first few hours and thus wasted a lot of time getting lost (no I just made that one up). Seriously though, we thought we would just nee 1 hour, in the end we took 2 and a half hours and it was a good time for me because I just fell in love with the place. After a while you do get used to seeing just ruined buildings, but I felt it was just so magical and wonderful to walk down these streets where a whole bustling community was once situated. I tried to imagine how the buildings would look like when they weren’t destroyed and people actually walking around doing their daily chores and errands.

Some highlights of the place that I must mention, places we went would be the bath house, this was in really good condition and if you get a tour guide, they’ll explain to you how the hot and cold bath works. We didn’t, we just depended on video’s we watched before and the audio guide we downloaded. The forum, the fast food shop, and yes I am serious. The bakery, the brothel, which by the way was still standing, with roof and all. The house of Faun, the mansion in this city because it was huge, it had a garden inside, loads of rooms, but the thing is there is just walls, no roof so that’s kind of sad. But on the bright side, the nice and beautiful mosaics on the wall and floors, some paintings were still visible even after all these years and many volcano eruptions. We of course saw some plaster moulds of the victims. This is done as the place where the body was would be hollow under the hardened magma. Why? Because the bones and flesh would have detiorated after all these years, so all they do is fill it up with plaster and when it hardens you can see the shape of the body. The bodies were the last movements of the victims and it was really sad to see some of them trying to cover their face and all. There was even a dog trying to protect her puppies.

Another thing that I must mention is that it is really easy to get lost in this place, really really easy and it is harder to find the places of interest, all these are true if you do not figure out their mapping system. Ok show off time here, after some time of walking and almost getting lost trying to find the house of Faun I was feeling tired because there is a lot of walking. But I also noticed something on some ruins which was Italian words then IV or III. They are of course roman symbols for numbers then there were also these signs at certain areas that did not make sense to me as it was all in Italian. Ok don’t be scared yet, it’s really simple. The numbers represent the areas you’re in. Like zone 1, 2, and 3 and so on. And it is clearly labelled on the map they give you at the ticket area, make sure to get your free map and guide at the counter near the ticket area! Then the signs that I mentioned are like road sign boards, like Oxford Street something like that. So you figure out which area you’re in first, don’t worry the numbers are on most of the ruined buildings and then you find the street you’re on. Then please I hope you were paying attention during geography class, use north as your reference point and then figure out where you are or where you want to go. And yes, I am a girl and I figured it all by myself, so do not underestimate girls and maps.

After we left, we felt really tired, another thing I should mention is that there aren’t many toilets around and there is a mini cafeteria there in the site itself but if you wonder a bit too far and suddenly want to eat, you will just have to walk all the way back. And no, the ruined fast food places are not in operation. So take note, wanna go toilet or eat, do it when the facility is right in front of you.

And we had not eaten since breakfast, so desperate for food we ate at a restaurant in a hotel nearby, like just outside the site. It was 10 euro’s per person and that is really worth it because you get some really good spaghetti with clams and me being a non spaghetti fan just ate this one whole heartedly, then some friend squid and prawn, salad and dessert. I admit that some of the food was too salty but overall it was a good meal for the price we were paying.

By delaying our journey by almost 3 hours we had to rush into the van and get on to the amalfi coast. Before this I did not know what this whole Amalfi Coast thing was about, but that was soon history as we just saw miles and miles of road along the sea and how do I describe this? It’s like going up to genting highlands but instead you have the sea instead of trees and houses on the hills facing the sea, it’s just lovely and beautiful. Unfortunately we did not complete the whole thing as the sun set and it was dark. But even when it was, the lights from the houses made it really nice, like Christmas without the snow.

We reached the hotel we stayed in, a nice new place on top of the hills, with Sorrento just a 10 min ride away. Checked in and finally read my itenary, learnt my lesson by then. Found out that we would not be able to see the town in the morning as we had to leave so some of us took the shuttle to the town to explore all we could. Yes we were tired but it was so worth it. The places is not really big, you have many small lanes to explore and the shops are quite small too but have loads of interesting things to see. We stopped by at a random restaurant and ate pizza there. This is what I love about Italy, you don’t have to go to a certain place to eat good pizza, and it’s everywhere! And they don’t do thick crust like how it is done in America, it’s thin, crispy and you have the taste of the earthen oven in it. Well it was late and many of the shops were already closed once we left the restaurant. To sum up the place, I think it’s like a little village in a storybook. I’m sorry today I just not my day to describe things haha.

What's been going on

Hello, i have been M.I.A on this blog for some time but really who doesn't (making excuses). haha but generally i think the blogging trend is slowly dying, I don't see many updates from friends anymore, sad sad thing. Well at least there's still facebook and twitter.

So what have i been up to? well i did teach for a month, but that was last month and now i have been bumming around doing nothing ever so productive, joy..........yeah i need a job that's flexible to my needs because i really don't know when i'm going to start uni, it's so undecided i might just sign up a day before (local). Who knows, life is just so unpredictable, that is probably the only thing you can predict about it. Yeah i'm talking in circles. Since i am so bored, i'm going to make a list of random things to do and if you could, help me to choose one to do. (If anyone still reads my blog)

1. decorate cupcakes and see if i have any skill in that area.
2. Learn a new language and stick to it this time.
3. Learn how to play a new instrument that people hardly play.
4. Just go get a job.
5. Go and play board games in that new place you found. But then i need friends to accompany me.
6. write a book, a story

I don't think i can come up with anymore now that is reasonable, i have many outrageous ones but that's just me ya know.

I should also probably finish my italy posts and post up a little write up about my time in A levels. The to do list is filling up pretty fast.

7 Things about Italy that I’ve noticed

I may come up with more when it hits me, but for now, it's 7. (photo's aren't mine)1. They love nutella. I am very serious, you think you’re a nutella fan? Well this is a whole country that loves it! We’re talking 5 kg Nutella, mini nutella’s, nutella spreads (for bread) and your normal medium sized nutella. Oh and not forgetting nutella on the go complete with a small drink next to it.

2. Saldi. This is one word shopaholics need to know, known to the English world simply as ‘Sale’.

3. Espresso, cappuccino. Anywhere, anytime. Coffee lovers, this is heaven for you. You don’t have to go to a certain place for the best, any small cafe promises to deliver a good cup to you. The driver that took us around also used the word cappuccino to tell us that it’s time for a break from driving. Yeah, it’s the Italian version of what we Malaysians love, Milo and mamak.

4. It’s easy to read Italian (most of the time). One of the reasons why I fell in love with this country, because their sign boards are easy to figure out. Farmacia = Pharmacy. Roma= Rome. Internationale = International. And many more easy to figure out words.

5. Football. They love it, it is said that Italians love food and football and spend a lot of their time on both. When I was in the plane and it was dark, mostly, you’ll see lights and cars moving along the highway. Here I noticed football stadiums lit up, and it wasn’t just one. They also have signboards on the road warning children not to play football at this part of the road.

6. Locks. Fine, it was only in Florence but people seemed to put locks in random places. I still have no idea why, but the authorities put up a sign to ban people from doing so. Anyone knows anything about this, please explain to me.

7. Pharmacies. The prominent company would be ‘International Pharmacy’ or in Italy ‘Famacia internationale’. You can find one anywhere, sometimes they even have two on the same street. It was really convenient since my family kept on buying lip balms from them. Other than that, it’s either this company is trying to be the market leader or they just really need one at every corner. However, what I liked about this chain of shops was that, they did have the basic pharmacy layout but they adapted it to the way the place was naturally built. So in some stores you can see intricately carved cherubs or renaissance influence.

My trip to Italy

As you may have realised or have been told, I went to Italy for a holiday (9 days) and it was really fun and exciting as i've never been to this country before. I'll write about the places i've visited and some things you should look out for if you were to visit it yourself. I'll try to get it out soon, thank God i have a journal to refer to or i would never be able to remember all the details since there's so many awesome things to talk about.

Wishes do come true

The thing is, when i posted that post, i was WISHING that i could visit this eternal city, and now, in 2 days i will!!! It's just a major wow moment. It's just a wonderful testament of God's Awesomeness, He answers our little wishes without us really actually asking for it sometimes.

Decorating the guy way

Watched this video called "Rob and Amber: Get married", if you don't know, they were the couple that got together in survivor all stars and because of that, it made that season so good, my favorite season ever (When i still watched survivor). This was in 2005, yeah years ago, they already have two kids, but anyway i watched it because i somehow, even though rob can be manipulative sometimes, i still like this couple. This part however, to me was the funniest, it shows rob in a store, buying almost everything to furnish their new house, it's a surprise for Amber you see. Also, this is an example of what it would look like when guys buy the furniture and do up the house. The end result by the way, was quite good. It also shows Amber getting signatures for Rob from his favorite baseball team.

Sherlock BBC 2010

Remember the Sherlock Holmes movie in 2009 starring Robert Downey Jr? Well this series (3 episodes per season, 1 season so far) is something of that sort. I found it by accident as i was trolling the web for something cosplay related, odd, i have no idea how that connects. Anyway, i just love this series as much as i loved the movie. Of course they have no connection to each other, other than the fact that they're both about Sherlock Holmes. This version stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson.

There are some notable differences at first, like the relationship between holmes and Watson, in the movie, Watson is in his own way independant of thought and can decipher things on his own. A change from the sidekick who knows nothing version always portrayed. Here, in the series watson can't figure out how holmes came to a certain conclusion. Why? Because in the series the first episode they just met each other. In the movie, they've been friends for years. On the series, watson is still trying to get used to Holmes, dashing off here and there, so he does get a bit irritated with Holmes. Holmes here is, from what i've seen so far, as ingenius as ever, with a touch of arrogance. He often insults the people around him for their lack of intelligence. Here's one, "Dear God, what is it like in your funny little brains? It must be boring" And another one where he insults the police detective.

Ok i'm just loving his character! The sarcasm is hillarious! Owh and i forgot to mention, it's set in modern London, so you have the updated version of everything. The ever famous address 221b Baker Street

For people in Malaysia, we won't be seeing this on television anytime soon, nope, we don't have the BBC one channel on astro, so you'll just have to download the episodes. So far i've downloaded 2/3, the third one is downloading right at this moment. The next season is only coming out in Fall 2011, that is September.....T.T. I'm excited as there's an episode entitles Irene Adler. For those who watched the movie, she's was Sherlock's love interest. So who says the BBC can't make anything interesting anymore eh? I like a few of their productions, Sherlock of course, and i've been trying to get my hands on the Tess of D'Urbervilles version they did just recently, and the old version of Hamlet, 4 hours long, but the best.

After an exhausting Day 1, I made my way to see what was installed for the next day. People were crowding outside the hall, waiting for the doors to open, before that everyone did a countdown full of enthusiasm. Since I had already gone through all the Doujin booths the day before, I made my way to the stage to book a nice spot. And it was a good thing I did because the screening of Danny Choo’s Culture: Japan episode 1 and 2 was shown. I really liked it as it was easy going yet informative. I learnt a lot about Japan just from the two episodes, for example, in Japan they have this “Itasha” where they put anime character stickers on their car. Not the small little ones you buy in the pasar malam but the big ones where you have to customize it. They even have a competition to see who has the best “Itasha”. He also covered a few things like Anime Figures, how they’re made, clone figurines from Good Smile, Maid cafes (wow the maids are really energetic and cute), doll customisation shop, Japanese culture festival in a school and the Edo wonderland. I liked the Edo wonderland one as the people there all dress up in traditional costumes and you can even learn how to be a ninja, just like Danny did. The voice stress Shiori Mikami also guest starred in both episodes, in the second episode, Danny tried to do voice acting with 4 other voice actresses. Not to forget the bicycle thing, in Japan they have this service where they store your bicycles for you underground!! That is so sci-fi- ish (For me), I wish they had something like this in Malaysia for motorbikes perhaps. Ok, I think i’ve gone too far about this, but I just really liked the episodes so much, Japan is so cool I need to go visit it one day. So if you want to find out more you can go to This Website. The show will be broadcasted on Animax every Friday 8pm.

After that, the Malaysian Lolita Club had a fashion runway show. Here everyone got to see a variety of Lolita dresses and fashion, the girls were cute and very loli-like as they posed for the camera’s.

Then it was another stage performance, this time an exercise routine, although no one could understand a thing they were saying because it was in Japanese, it was funny to see their actions and facial expression. Very serious, very exercise routine.

Finally it came the time for the solo cosplay competition, this year it was different as they had more rules that restricted the participants, for example, they couldn’t interact with the judges or the emcees (many had done that last year). The participants were very creative with the way they portrayed their character, others got nervous in front of the crowd and some had really, really good cosplays. Like this cosplayer who had a sword that was bigger than her, very cool. For those who made it to the finals, they were paired up and had to do a skit with each other.

Since it was the last day, the emcees were throwing free posters at the crowd (I got one yay!) and loads of prizes that people had to do something for. It’s amazing what people would do just for a Nips poster, they willingly put themselves up to whatever the emcees could think of. They also showed a video of what Alfred had been doing for the past year. A surprise for me because i’ve watched the video before but never knew it was him!

Gempak had an autograph session again, this time the artists were Keith, Kaoru, Joe and Nishiki. After the prizes were given out to the cosplayers, in the tradition of comic fiesta, the final dance was held. This is where everyone goes crazy even though their energy levels are near zero. And that people, marks the end of comic fiesta 2010.

Personal Comments:

I was very excited to do the side quests but unfortunately, the friends I came with on day 1 couldn’t make it for Day 2, so I decided not to try. But I did see the card you got when you unlocked the quest; it looked like the World of Warcraft Quest unlocked image, nice.

Didn’t get to go for the industry seminars because it was held simultaneously with the events in the hall, and opportunity cost you know (oh darn, economics). Due to the lack of space they had to have them in separate rooms, just wish I could have sat for at least one.

Wish they could have used the big screen at the stage area to project what was going on on stage. This would allow people at the back to see what’s going on and everyone wouldn’t need to crowd at the stage area.

Comic Fiesta 2010 Day 1

The 18^th of December, many events were going on around the klang valley but 9000 plus people choose to be in one place; Comic Fiesta 2010. This year comic fiesta has hit the 9000 attendees target without a sweat, when I got there, the lifts were full every time the doors opened, the line was so long (those who pre-booked their tickets sighed with relief) and the toilet full of cosplayers getting ready. Despite all this, which would normally scare me, I eagerly waited for the doors to open into the hall. While waiting I watched my friend get ready for her cosplay, the interesting part is watching everyone else get ready and helping their friends out, not to mention you get to see your favourite characters there and then. A good improvement this year was the toilets. In Sunway, the cosplayers and everyone else were fighting for space in the scarce basin area. But this year, there was more make up space and it didn’t feel as crowded as it was before.

As everyone flooded into the hall, the people from horizon were asking people to fill out forms to enter the lucky draw contest, the prize was an I-pad and 2 I-pod nano’s each day. Unfortunately, I was not lucky enough to win the I-pad which I was personally eyeing on. On the left there was the Nips copic challenge, where normally it would be illegal to destroy public property by doing graffiti on the wall, here you could do as much as you liked and make a mark on the wall. Free Nips candy (peanut and raisins) were given out, this became my personal fuel as I went for hours without food because there was just so much going on. Every year during comic fiesta (I don’t know if it’s just me or others feel the same way) my body would magically be able to function without breakfast or lunch. Another thing would be my body functioning with low levels of energy, all thanks to the lack of sleep. This is what comic fiesta does alright.

If you wanted to get the feeling of being a toy in a box (something like toy story) there was a live size figurine box that one could go into and take pictures. The Lim Kok Wing booth had a DOTA competition on going throughout the event, many guys and their teams went there to show off their skills as they tried to beat the other team.

On the main stage Shaun and Alfred were back as Emcee’s, while Alfred was on his way to comic fiesta, he had a substitute, Edo, the stoner emcee. The best part was when a person was asked to do the “dandut” and the guy had to follow Edo’s moves, the lack of expression and the dance moves combined made it hilarious. This is what the crowd would do for free stuff, among the things done were proposing and rejecting someone, jumping and the limbo, but that’s another story. Comic Fiesta was Officiated with this video:

At the other end of the hall were the Doujin booths. This is where you can see artists love for art and anime combined. Loads of Hetalia, Vocaloid and Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) artwork were on sale, along with the long time favourite’s naruto and final fantasy. There weren’t just drawings, but little clay artworks of tiny cakes and desserts that looked good enough to eat, t-shirts, cups, hats (just adorable) and doll clothes. Fans of certain artists also take this chance to finally meet their favourite artists in person, giving compliments and getting signatures. The place was full of activity as people tried to get the goods before it was all sold out. Certain booths were so popular that in a matter of hours all their goods were sold off. I personally could not get my hands on the naruto artwork and due to indecision; this beautiful postcard which I contemplated my purchase on was sold out. Lesson learnt; buy it when you see it.

Because I was caught up in the Doujin area, I almost missed the time for the group cosplay competition. Others were fast and got a nice spot to sit at. Unfortunately for me I had to rough my way through the crowd to get a spot where I still had to stand. It would have been good if the stage area were bigger so that more people could watch the performances. The group cosplays were good as they were creative in the use of props, music and the characters themselves. I personally liked the chrono cross cosplay where they had the whole “How to deal with women” theme:
the Kuroshitsuji group was entertaining too as it revolved around mobile phones and music to convey the “words” they were saying.
Other cosplay groups involved characters like the Joker and Harley Quinn, Mario, Final Fantasy, resident evil and a mix of characters from different anime/games. (Not in order of appearance)
At 5.30, fans of Gempak comic artists got to get their signatures, there was Keith, Kaoru, Neko and little, there another long line formed as there were so many fans.

Outside the hall there were loads of things going on, firstly, the art competition which was held in a separate room, they also had some industry seminars. The speakers included Ivon Smith from Codemasters, Kelvin Hii also from Codemasters, Michael Chua a comic artist and Phil Yeh and Ohil Ortiz who are cartoonists and animators respectively. Other than that, since photographers weren’t allowed to take pictures inside the hall, cosplayers and photographers were outside busy posing and taking pictures. There was this cosplayer from Sabah who had such huge wings that she needed helpers to hold it up for her. She took the spotlight as everyone was in awe of the detail and massiveness of her cosplay. It is here that one gets to admire all the hard work and dedication put into making the costumes, these people take their passion seriously and it all pays off in Comic Fiesta.

This event is a whole new thing for CF, for the first time, attendees get to do compete against each other. Here's a brief description about the event:

CF has been invaded by a mysterious force! (which we somehow know is evil)

We need able arms to fend off this mysterious force! (which we somehow know is evil) So we are calling
YOU! Gather your friends, or if you like to prove your sole might, go solo and complete the achievements through the two days of CF2010!

You and your friends only need to be an attendee of CF to play. Once you’ve got your tickets, register your team with the CF Quest Counter begin unlocking Achievements and gain Achievement Points!

Rapunzel: A tangled tale 2010

The story is not unfamiliar to us fairytale lovers. Rapunzel a girl with uncommonly long hair is locked up in a tower, the only way up is when she lets down her hair. Prince comes, rescues her. That is the story in a nutshell; Disney has finally taken up this classic tale and given it its Disney twist. Rapunzel is still Rapunzel with the long golden hair. Kidnapped at birth, check, locked in tower, check. What’s different now is the prince, he’s not a prince, no in fact he’s a wanted thief. This reminds me of mother Gothel’s line when Rapunzel says “I met someone” and she replies “Yes, the wanted thief....I’m so proud.” As evil a character as mother gothel is, she has been given the most sarcastic lines in the movie, contending with her would be Flynn. Back to the story, mother Gothel locks Rapunzel up in the tower because, drum roll, Rapunzel’s hair has magical powers of healing and rejuvenation when you sing a certain tune to it. It was one a drop of sunshine that grew into a magical flower you see. Then one night, when the queen almost died of childbirth, the villager/soldiers found that flower that mother Gothel tried so hard to hide, the queen was saved and thus rapunzel had blonde hair. Mother gothel tried to snip a lock of hair but found out that by doing so, the power vanished, so she kidnapped the girl and raised her as her own. The King and Queen were so heartbroken that every year they would light lanterns just like the one they did when Rapunzel was born in hope that Rapunzel would see it and return to them. I know it sounds so magical and all. 18 years later, Rapunzel is bored doing the same old things in the tower. She wants to get out and see the magical lights. She tries to ask mother Gothel but is rejected. On to Flynn, he’s on the castle and on a mission to steal the crown (rapunzel’s). He and his accomplices manage to do the job but they get chased by soldier. After abandoning his accomplices he is pursued by Maximus, the very human like horse in my opinion. He stumbles across the secret passageway leading to Rapunzel’s tower. Seeing it as a perfect hideout, he climbs the tower and meets Rapunzel in the most painful way, a hit on the head by a frying pan (a very prominent weapon in this show). Rapunzel manages to hide/lock him in the cupboard and before she can show him to mother Gothel, she is dissuaded. Now she comes up with an idea to use Flynn to take her to see the lights blackmailing him using the crown. He agrees and there begins their adventure. I don’t want to give out too much information, it’ll be better for you to watch it yourself, it is really worth it, i plan to rewatch it very soon! Comments on the characters, i like Rapunzel, she’s pretty, funny, smart, somewhat brave and it’s so fun to see her reactions to everything. Flynn is supposed to be the most handsome prince Disney has ever come up with, I AGREE!! He went through the hot guy screening and it’s a pass! I like his sarcastic remarks to Rapunzel’s never ending eagerness. Take this line for example. Rapunzel :Some this brought you here, fate, destiny.. Flynn: A horse. And the nice stuff he does for her, like the lanterns. He acts all tough and bad but deep down inside he’s so sweet and has this little dream in his heart. Pascal is just so cute, and the perfect sidekick to have. Maximus, like i said before, is very humanlike for a horse. He’s smarter than the guards and when Flynn and him fight, it’s hilarious.

Storyline/plot: Seeing that it’s a fairytale, you’d expect certain things like a Prince and Princess, evil charatcter and a happy ending. Some parts were very predictable, but i’d excuse them as firstly, the movie was made for little kids, not teenagers who have seen/read too many fairytales to know what’s going to happen. And secondly, i think it’s that whole basic plotline that they must follow that makes it a Princess movie.

Animation/Art: WONDERFUL, i love the artwork, how it’s 3D and yet you get to see the old style of hand painting (looks like it). Since i’ve watched almost every promo video that Disney has released for Tangled i know that they used Disneyland as an inspiration for the town. I could really see and feel that in the movie, it was just magical. Two thumbs up to the animators/artists for all wonderful work on the art, loved the tower, the palace, the snugly duckling, oh, just the whole movie!

Favourite scene: The lantern scene. Especially the part where the King and Queen light up the first lantern and everyone else slowly follows. That was the most magical/ cool part of the whole movie.

Songs: The most memorable song for me would be “Now i see the light”, again the lantern scene. Other songs weren’t that impactful. The songs had a link to what was happening of course, but the lyrics weren’t so catchy or the tune was just so so. Or maybe i’m just not a fan of the whole bursting out in song when i feel so very happy in movies. (ok.ok Pascal)

I would really really recommend this movie to everyone. Good job to Zachary Levi (Flynn) and Mandy Moore (Rapunzel) for a great job with the voices. Disney, you hit the target on the whole Disney Princess thing again. The last two, Giselle and Tiana, didn’t really look like they’d fit in with the rest of the gang, (the usuals you know, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, etc). I am still so hyped up with the movie that i’m collecting every piece and scrap of artwork there is on the internet related to this movie!! I will upload more stuff on Flynn soon, since very much obsessed with him.

Comic Fiesta 2010 Aims To Reward Visitors and Challenge Perceptions

Since it's humble beginnings as a small exhibition at the Selangor
Chinese Assembly Hall in 2002, Comic Fiesta has grown exponentially in
both size and scope to become the premier ACG (Anime, Comics & Games)
event in Malaysia. The 2009 edition of this expo brought in almost
8,000 visitors from all walks of life together under the roof of the
Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, the biggest audience yet for an ACG
event organized in Malaysia.

Now, Comic Fiesta 2010 looks set to break the record yet again. Being
held at the Manhattan Ballroom of Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia, on 18 and 19 December 2010, this year's iteration
organized by Sequential Youth Arts Society (SAYS) is planned to bring
"more of everything", as well as challenge the local perception of
what an ACG event can offer to its visitors and the Malaysian ACG
community.

In addition to the ever-popular Artists Booth (formerly known as the
Doujin Market) and anticipated Cosplay Competitions, Comic Fiesta 2010
will also be premiering new, never-seen-before attractions for all
visitors.

Tickets are priced at RM15 for a one-day entry, and may be purchased
at the venue itself. Visitors can also choose to pre-order their
tickets at RM25 for both days using the order form from the official
website. Application forms for the cosplay and karaoke competitions
are also available from the website.

Yes, there is such a thing, what's it about?

Curse of the Colonel (カーネルサンダースの呪い Kāneru Sandāsu no noroi?) refers to an urban legend regarding a reputed curse placed on the Japanese Kansai-based Hanshin Tigers baseball team by deceased KFC founder and mascot Colonel Harland Sanders. The curse was said to be placed on the team because of the Colonel's anger over treatment of one of his store-front statues.[1]

The Hanshin Tigers are located in Kansai, the second largest metropolitan area in Japan. They are considered the eternal underdogs of Nippon Professional Baseball, in opposition to the Yomiuri Giants of Tokyo, who are considered the kings of Japanese baseball.[2] The devoted fans flock to the stadium no matter how badly the Tigers play in the league.[3]

As is common with sports-related curses, the Curse of the Colonel is used to explain the Japan Championship Series drought that the Hanshin Tigers have had to endure since their first and only victory in the 1985 Japan Championship.[4] The curse is said to have happened when Hanshin fans, excited over winning the 1985 championship series, tossed the statue of Colonel Sanders into the Dōtonbori River.[4]

Since then, fans have said they would never win another Japan Series until the statue was recovered.[5] Comparisons are often made between the Hanshin Tigers and the Boston Red Sox, who were also said to be under a curse, the Curse of the Bambino, until they won the World Series in 2004.[4] The "Curse of the Colonel" has also been used as a boogeyman threat to those who would divulge the secret recipe of eleven herbs and spices that makes the unique taste of KFC chicken.[6]

The Back Up plan Movie review

Plot: A romantic comedy centered on a woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination, only to meet the man of her dreams on the very same day. (From IMDB)

Starring: Jennifer Lopez as Zoe, and Alex O' Loughlin as Stan

Alright, let's talk plot here, it's simple, you have a woman who's sick of dating and wants to have a baby. She ultimately decides to inseminate herself and lo and behold right after she does, she meets the man of her dreams. A sad and maybe cruel trick of fate? That, for me is the only twist in the whole plot. The rest is pretty basic, you have them meet each other and fight, then suddenly after some events they like each other. The writer focuses more on their relationship together, learning to live with the fact that she is pregnant, add in a few jokes about pregnant women and there you have the story. Truthfully, at the end of the movie, i was just feeling neutral about the movie, nothing that great there. I had some doubts about the characters themselves. Firstly, stan, the main guy, He is too nice!! seriously, i have not met a real human guy who is so nice as to accept the woman with twins and just being so nice to her although she tries to push him away. Yes, he does get a little fustrated, but i don't know, he's just too patient, he;s just too good to be true. As for Zoe, only at the end of the movie did i find out her character is supposed to be stubborn. Pushing people away i got, but stubborn? i didn't know that not feeding her dog was considered stubborn. I didn't get that at all. So it's either a problem with the script or the acting.

I also did not appreciate the birth scene in the movie. Yes you are doing a movie about a woman getting pregnant, she joins a support group of single mothers and proud, one of them is bound to give birth in the movie, but did you have to show it in such detail? I don't know what the writer wanted to do with that scene? poke fun at women giving birth and the horrors a guy has to go through watching it? I guess it would be funny to see the guy faint and all, but do it right, with some dignity please, especially on the woman's side. The whole movie tries to poke fun at the mood swings pregnant women go through, like getting super angry because she can't fit into her nice clothes or being permanently glued to her pillow. Those parts were ok compared to the birth scene.

Now onto what i liked about the movie, the guy, although his character is unbelievable , but he is cute/hot. I think that's all......yup.

The final verdict, to watch or not? If you have nothing else better to watch, nothing else better to do and you are desperate for a chick flick, then yes, if not, there are other movies to watch like the upcoming movie tangled!!
